Parker Palmer in Let Your Life Speak said, “We are here not only to transform the world, but also to be transformed.” The Greek word for someone who comforts is paraclete, literally meaning “one who comes to walk alongside.” The word signifies “one who consoles or comforts, one who encourages or uplifts.” One word, one action, or one thought can reduce another person’s suffering and bring them joy. One word can give comfort and confidence, destroy doubt, help someone avoid a mistake, reconcile a conflict. During this holiday season, let’s not only talk about love, compassion, and generosity; but demonstrate them as well.
Wishing you peace and well-being, during this holiday season, as you “walk alongside” someone who is experiencing difficulties or suffering. Maybe you will not only transform them, but you as well.
