There is a saying that goes “It’s hard to find good help.” There are times when this is true, and there are times when the help needed was here all along. Hiring a person with a disability can be a win-win. Many people with disabilities are eager to work, and I’m not just saying this because it’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Looking back on my decade of vocational support experience , I can honestly say that employment offers so much more than a bit of walking around money. Employment can be a bridge to the community and so much more. Being a part of a team feels good, and being a part of the community you live in builds more than just confidence. It fosters inclusion. New friendships and social networks are key ingredients to independence. If you are a job seeker with a disability or a business owner building an inclusive workforce, Freedom Resource Center can help. One of the core services offered is Information and Referral.
